Getting there

BRAVEHEART

From: Monday 01 January 2007  To: Tuesday 01 January 2008

Australian screen legend Mel Gibson brought the Braveheart story to the world, but the real story of William Wallace lies deep in the heart of Scotland. The historic city of Stirling is the destination for those eager to unearth the truth about one of Scotland's most enduring heroes. There's a monument dedicated to Wallace here, as well as the famous Stirling Castle, home to a fascinating visitor centre, where you can discover more about the area's rich history.

The movie itself was filmed mainly in Glencoe and Kinlochleven, both areas of outstanding natural beauty. In fact the unspoilt Ochil hills and nearby Trossachs are one of the most picturesque areas in the country, with the landscape here practically unchanged for centuries. So when you've finished learning all about the life of William Wallace, head for the countryside and get a feel for what life was like when Wallace himself walked these lands.
