From 18 to 29 June 2008, the Edinburgh International Film Festival will showcase global, international and UK premieres and play host to the world's greatest filmmakers.If it's worth watching, you'll see it at the Edinburgh International Film Festival. Started way back in 1947, this respected event is the longest continually running film festival in the world.

The festival draws thousands of passionate movie-lovers and industry experts from across the globe, presenting a thrilling programme covering past classics and world premieres, as well as features that explore the future of moving image technology.

Over the years, Edinburgh has played host to many of the world's greatest filmmakers, presenting some of cinema's most exciting moments to enthralled audiences. Big names like Scorsese, Spielberg, Soderbergh and local hero Bill Forsyth have all been honoured here.

The 2008 programme will be unveiled on 7 May with tickets going on sale on 9 May. A look at past screenings gives a hint at the quality on offer. Notable films shown in the last few years include gems such as Mrs Brown, East is East, Amelie, The Full Monty and Motorcycle Diaries.
