THE WICKER MAN
From: Monday 01 January 2007 To: Friday 01 January 2010
This 1974 cult movie was one of the scariest films of the time, and starred horror legend Christopher Lee as the demonic Lord Summerisle. Today, the colourful villages of Galloway are a warm and welcoming place, so it's hard to believe this is where many of the blood curling scenes were shot. But suspend your imagination and enjoy a spooky tour of many of the film's prime locations. First stop on The Wicker Man trail is Culzean Castle; worth a visit in its own right but a must for horror fans as the castle was the grand home of Lord Summerisle in the movie. The Cally Estate office in nearby Gatehouse of Fleet became the Greenman Inn, while many of the outdoor scenes were filmed at Castle Kennedy Gardens in Galloway. So pay the area a visit, if you dare...
