150 remarkable and memorable photographic portraits from that barometer of the modern age, Vanity Fair magazine, with sitters ranging from Claude Monet to Arthur Miller, Katherine Hepburn to David Hockney and Jesse Owens to Julia Roberts.
The National Portrait Gallery is also home to the Scottish National Photography Collection. Established in 1984 to collect and research photography, with a particular interest in Scottish work, the collection has grown to around 30,000 works from the 1840s to the present day. Highlights include a key collection of photographs by David Octavius Hill and Robert Adamson.
